It happens every 4 years and takes the world by storm. The world’s best athletes arrive for what is the most spectacular sporting event.
In the XXIX Olympiad in Bejing, there were 204 countries and territories who competed. Of the 192 UN recognized countries, the only country not to have entered was Brunei as they could not field a single athlete. All other countries were present.
It is where legends are born and records are broken, both for the athletes Personal Best and World Records themselves.
As the Olympics have moved forward every decade, so has the interest in them. The media coverage for the 2012 Olympics held in London will at an all time high with some events even being broadcast in 3D.
From the very first ancient Olympic Games held back in Olympia, Greece in 776 BC to the first modern Olympic Games held in Athens in 1896, the event has continually grown from strength to strength. Only on rare occasion not to held such as the 2 World Wars.
